Invisalign or Braces: Which is right for me?

At All Star Smiles Orthodontics, we offer braces and Invisalign for childrenteens and adults who are looking for a healthier bite and straighter smile.

Ultimately, the right choice depends on your orthodontic needs, lifestyle, and desired results.

Braces and Invisalign are simply the tools that Dr. Diane uses to achieve your correction, but which tool to use and how to apply them properly and efficiently is why she went through additional specialized training and continues her education outside of the office. Don't be fooled by claims that certain brands of braces are better and faster. It's not the braces, but the doctor's knowledge and experience that matters.

At your complimentary in-office or virtual consultation, discuss which method is best suited for your correction.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign treatment consists of a series of customized clear aligners.

Each aligner has a prescription written by Dr. Diane to achieve specific tooth movements.

  • Virtually Invisible

Invisalign clear aligners are made of a lightweight, transparent material that makes them almost undetectable when worn. This makes them a great choice for people who want a lower-profile look.

Many Invisalign wearers find that people rarely notice the aligners!

  • Convenient & Removable

Being able to remove your aligners means your daily oral hygiene routine stays much the same as before your treatment began. Simply take out your aligners, then brush and floss your teeth just like you always do.

There are also no diet restrictions since you can remove the aligners! Bonus!

  • Comfortable

Aligners achieve correction with minimal discomfort. Most patients describe wearing a new tray as "tight." Compared with braces and wires, aligners have fewer irritations and issues with breakage. It can be a great choice for those who have had orthodontic treatment in the past that has relapsed.

More About Invisalign More About Braces

Benefits of Braces

Traditional braces use brackets, modern wires, and elastics to gently shift and straighten teeth over time.

Braces are streamlined and more comfortable and esthetic than ever before.

  • Versatility

Braces can be used to resolve virtually any misalignment, no matter how complex. This is because of their ability to apply three-dimensional, consistent pressure to the entire tooth.

When it comes to more complicated corrections, such as rotations, roots, closing extraction spaces, or more detailed corrections in conjunction with a larger dental plan, braces are typically the best treatment option to complete the correction.

  • Efficiency

Treatment efficiency in braces comes primarily from Dr. Diane's years of experience. She understands how to apply her braces and wires for each condition, and has developed the most efficient appointment sequences to make sure your progress is smooth. Efficient treatment does not lie in the type of brace used. After all, having a power tool doesn't make the work faster unless you know how to use it!

The efficiency of braces comes from its ability to apply constant force to the teeth, especially in the most difficult of tooth movements. Also, since you can't remove your braces (compared to Invisalign), the wires and elastics can move your teeth. This fact alone can be one of the major factors in determining the length of your treatment time.

  • Ease of Compliance

While there are lifestyle benefits to removable aligners, it is important to consider how likely it is that you will always wear them as prescribed. It is surprisingly easy to forget to put them back in or give yourself longer "breaks" when you're enjoying your cup of coffee, or having lunch with friends.

If you are concerned about being able to wear your aligners properly or are prone to misplacing things, braces may be best as they are on your teeth 24/7 and will help to eliminate the feeling of doing "one more thing" in a busy schedule.
